Metering tire shine with peristaltic dosing pumps
Doza Pumps meter solvent-based and water-based tire dressing in mL per car, so you can set the amount, see what it costs, and stop guessing how much is going on the floor.
Why meter tire shine
Tire dressing is one of the most expensive chemicals per car in a tunnel, and it is applied in small amounts where a small error matters. Trade coverage reports that newer online applicators average about one fluid ounce per car, so a few extra mL on every car adds up over a year.
Here is what one application costs at two example dressing prices. Use your own price to run the same math:
| Dose per car | At $30 per gallon ($0.0079/mL) | At $50 per gallon ($0.0132/mL) |
|---|---|---|
| 15 mL | $0.12 | $0.20 |
| 30 mL (about 1 fl oz) | $0.24 | $0.40 |
| 45 mL | $0.36 | $0.59 |
For example, a wash doing 20,000 cars a year that applies 5 mL too much on each car uses 100 extra liters, about 26 gallons. At $50 per gallon, that is about $1,300 a year from one chemical.
Solvent-based and water-based dressings
Doza runs both types on the same setup: black Tire Shine tubing. Chemical touches only the tube, so there are no valves or tips in the pump to clog.
- Flow rate: 0.1 to 3.0 mL/s on black tubing. A 30 mL dose at 3.0 mL/s takes 10 seconds.
- Tubing life: about 100 pumping hours, tracked for each pump in DozaLink. We sell replacement tubing.
- Calibration: run a test dose with your dressing and save what came out. Weigh it if you like: divide grams by the specific gravity on the product's safety data sheet to get mL.
- Changing products: calibrate again after a switch to a noticeably thicker or thinner dressing.
- Storage and ventilation: follow your dressing's safety data sheet and local codes. This matters most for solvent products, which can be flammable.
How it connects to your applicators
Each Doza unit has two pumps and two controller inputs, and either input can run either pump or both. Wire a controller output that is 24 to 120 V AC or DC when on, then choose how each pump responds:
- Dispense a set amount: one signal delivers one fixed dose, even if the controller only pulses briefly. This suits a set amount per car.
- Dispense until it turns off: the pump runs for as long as the controller holds the signal on, up to the safety limits you set.
- Wait before starting: delay a dose by up to 300 seconds after the signal.
Settings are stored on the device, so wash-triggered dosing keeps working if the internet drops.
What you see in DozaLink
- Chemical use and cost by site, chemical and device, plus estimated cost per car.
- A running stock estimate and a low-stock reminder before the drum runs out.
- Who changed a dose, with the before and after values, in the audit log.
- Which roles can change doses, so a setting stays where you put it.
Want to check your dressing first? Send us the product name and safety data sheet. We can source custom tubing if your application needs it. Full specifications are in the Operation Manual, and this guide covers what changes at the pump for each dressing type.
Common questions
Can Doza pump solvent-based tire shine?
Yes. Fit black Tire Shine tubing, which is the tubing we recommend for both solvent-based and water-based dressings, then calibrate the pump with your dressing.
Can Doza pump water-based tire shine?
Yes, on the same black Tire Shine tubing. Calibrate again when you change from one dressing to another, because a thicker or thinner product delivers differently.
How much tire shine does one car use?
It depends on your applicator and dressing. Trade coverage reports newer online applicators averaging about one fluid ounce per car, which is about 30 mL. With Doza you set the amount in mL and see what each site actually uses.
How often does the tubing need replacing?
Black Tire Shine tubing lasts about 100 pumping hours. DozaLink tracks pumping hours for each pump and shows a tubing life bar, which turns amber at 80% and red at 100%.
Does it work with my tunnel controller?
Doza runs from any controller output that is 24 to 120 V AC or DC when on. It does not need a controller from a particular brand.
